Meet the Directors
John Crompton
With an excess of 36 years experience predominantly within the residential sector, ranging from large commercial housing developers to medium / small bespoke developers and individuals, John has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and expertise in designing and developing concepts to the finished product.
John is a Chartered Architectural Technologist with a Building Surveying degree and gained these qualifications whilst working within the industry full-time and part-time studying for twelve years. His career has led to him working for a number of different organisations, predominantly in the North of the country. He has worked both on the client and consultant sides until, along with Ian Rivington, he founded LOROC Architects.
“I love the sense of achievement when working on a scheme, whether small or large. Managing all the complexities, finding solutions and delivering planning approvals, is almost like making your own jigsaw puzzle! I also enjoy more bespoke schemes as you are lucky enough to meet some of the purchasers who will enjoy, with their families, your creation. It can be so rewarding to see the journey from your initial idea, often via planning and construction challenges, through to the very end result."
John delivers the urban design and management process for LOROC Architect’s Housing portfolio. Overseeing the highly skilled team, finding new talent within the industry and being a mentor undoubtedly motivates him, along with his passion for promoting sustainability through modern design and construction techniques.
John loves spending time with his family and when not listening to a variety of music or attending music concerts across the UK and Europe, his passions are history and travel, which results in holidays in some truly memorable places.
Ian Rivington
With over 25 years experience within the industry, Ian is a qualified and Chartered Architect who has honed his skills on a number of large schemes throughout the UK within the commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare and education sectors.
After studying at Huddersfield University, Ian started his career in London in 1996 working for such clients as Westminster City Council, Corporation of London, Grand Metropolitan (Diageo) and qualified as a Chartered Architect in 2000. He subsequently continued his career in Leeds with various architectural practices until founding LOROC Architects with John Crompton.
Ian has particular expertise in design and project delivery and is adept at dealing with issues relating to building regulations, risk management and construction.
“Working on a broad spectrum of projects from large industrial schemes to bespoke high-end homes gives me invaluable insight into all complexities of the masterplanning and development process. I am particularly motivated by overcoming obstacles to development in order to facilitate schemes of excellence with strong regeneration and sustainability credentials.”
Ian enjoys looking for new business opportunities to enable LOROC to continue on its successful path. Outside work, Ian is very much a family man, and enjoys a relaxing family holiday in the sun. Most weekends, when he is not supporting his daughter’s football team, he is refereeing their matches.
